HEAL attended ‘Innovation Package Scaling Readiness (IPSR) workshop organized by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), in Addis Ababa on March 14, 2024. The workshop deliberated at length taking “One Health Units as a Service Delivery Innovation for Pastoralist Areas of Ethiopia” as an innovation. More specifically, detail discussion and group work activities were done taking account of the following ambition statement.

“By the end of 2028, HEAL and partners work together with the private sector and government at Regional, Zonal and District levels to accomplish the use of One Health Units (OHUs) by service providers in 60 kebeles (villages) reaching a total of 260,000 pastoralists in Oromia and Somali Regional States of Ethiopia contributing human and animal health and sustainable use of rangeland ecosystem in these regions.”

The workshop deliberated on barriers and enablers to the innovation, scaling readiness assessment and next steps including taking stocks and evidence. A total of over 25 people drawn from zonal and district government, NGOs and consortium partners attended the workshop. Outputs of the workshop will be amongst the important input for designing the next phase of HEAL.
