HEAL attended the ‘First Ethiopian-Swiss Microbiome and AMR Symposium,’ organized by Jigjiga University, Swiss TPH, and Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) and Jigjiga One Health Institute (JOHI), in Addis Ababa on January 15, 2024.

The symposium deliberated on range of topics including One Health integrated surveillance system, Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) surveillance in the Somali Region, microbiome in health and disease, effect and risk of early life antibiotics, microbiome of pastoralists in Adadle district, food and microbiomes, microbiota vault and human microbiome conservancy. AMR is amongst the One Health issues as it affects humans, animals and the environment.

A total of over 40 people drawn from the government of Ethiopia (Bio and Emerging Technology Institute, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Health Bureau of Regional States, University of Gondar, Jigjiga University, Jimma University, Addis Ababa University, Semera University, Bahir Dar University, Mekelle University, Haromaya University, Arsi University and Dire Dawa University), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), VSF-Suisse | HEAL consortium, Swiss TPH and AHRI attended the event.
