HEAL attended a consultative meeting on emergency drought response organized by the Ministry of Health, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) on March 14, 2023. Failure of five consecutive rainy seasons has significantly impacted the livelihood of the pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in general and the health of the people in particular. The consultative meeting brought together range of stakeholders including the UN agencies, donors and INGOs operating in the health sector and deliberated at length on emergency drought response action plan to the affected areas. Her excellency Dr. Lia Tadesse, the Minister of Health, called the donor community and INGOs to extend technical and financial support to respond to the severe impact of the drought.
