One Health for Human, Environment, Animals and Livelihoods (OH4HEAL) program has shared its experience of gender responsive programming to empower women in pastoral areas. The Event was organized by the Swiss Embassy in Addis Ababa to mark the International Women’s Day, on March 8, 2023. The theme of the event was “Strengthening the Role of Women and their Networks in our Activities” and Swiss based NGOs were invited to present one of their best practices that fit to the aforementioned theme. A total of 40 participants drawn from the Swiss Embassy, Swiss-based NGOs working in Ethiopia, namely Caritas, Helvetas, HEKS and VSF attended the event.

The HEAL team presented its best experience of gender responsive programming in its innovative feed solution interventions in the Borana pastoral and agro-pastoral communities. The presentation addressed the following core points:

• Gender issues in pastoral and agro-pastoral areas
• Response: Innovative feed solutions – The case of Hydroponic fodder production
• Core achievements in the last couple of years
• Major contributions to the pastoral women
• Lessons learnt

Apart from the presentation, the HEAL team distributed 4 pages of brochure it prepared for the purpose. HEAL also used this opportunity to introduce its other interventions in the pastoral and agro-pastoral areas in the Horn of Africa.
